If history is a prelude, Dywane Pickett and Don Ashworth proved to be right in step in the 2018 NW La. Senior Olympics golf championship at Querbes Park Wednesday (May 16).

In 2017, Pickett won the Gold Medal in the 70-74 age bracket and Ashworth took home the Silver Medal. On Wednesday, Pickett won the Gold Medal in the age bracket and Ashworth won the Silver Medal.

Jeff Coulson and Harry Allen also won age group Gold Medals for the second straight year, Coulson among 60-64 golfers and Allen among the 80-89 grouping.

In medal scoring, Pickett’s 75 was low, followed by Bob Joubert’s 76. Ashworth, Coulson and Jorge Jeminez had scores of 77. Steve Williford posted a 78 and Allen and Chip Hemphill posted 79s, rounding out the top eight scores.

Marilyn Creswell, in her first year as tournament director, had the field off and running minutes before the scheduled shotgun start. She also won the Gold Medal for the ladies in the field.

Medal winners are automatically qualified for the LSOG state competition Sept 12 at Oakwing Golf Club in Alexandria. Entry deadline is Sept. 4. Details of all the events at the state level can be found at the state website–lsog1.org. Par at Oakwing Golf Club is 36-36-72 and Robbie Gueringer is the professional.

In addition to medal winners, medal score finishes also qualify for the state event–men 50-69 100 or below; 70-79 105 or below and men 80 or above must be able to finish a round in four hours. Corresponding women levels are 105, 110 and four hours.
